English Second Language
English Second Language (ESL)
Children who are enrolled in the ESL program (English for Speakers of Other Languages) come to the United States from many different countries or speak a variety of languages, all hoping to participate in the curriculum of the regular classroom.
To aid them in reaching this goal, students receive English instruction in a pull-out class that will enhance their English proficiency. Students may enter the program on a beginner, intermediate, or advanced level and then exit as they fully participate in the regular classroom.
Instruction in English speaking, reading, writing, and listening is used as they are acquainted with both our school and American culture. Currently our students’ native languages include Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Farsi, Korean, Armenian, Urdu, Bengali, Tagalog, Albanian, Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Dutch, German, Gujarati, Kurdish, Malayalam, Portuguese, Punjabi, Telugu, and Thai.
Pompi Mukherjee
Hello, my name is Pompi Mukherjee, and I am the ESL Specialist on campus.
I am happily married and am a proud mother of a son who is a Plano ISD graduate and currently working in the field of finance.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and discovering new cuisines. An interesting fact about me is that I am a trained Odissi dancer and have a deep passion for classical music and dance.
As the ESL Specialist, I truly enjoy working at Gulledge because it allows me to learn about different cultures and support students as they acclimate to our school community.
Our ESL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program serves students from a wide variety of countries and language backgrounds who come to the United States. These students share the common goal of becoming active, confident participants in the academic life of a regular classroom. I love how our program is thoughtfully designed to help them develop the English language skills they need for both academic success and meaningful social connections.
Ahndrea Lee
I was raised in Plano and graduated from Plano West before earning both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Flute Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. While in school, I began teaching private music lessons and quickly discovered a passion for working with students. I also volunteered for several years as a Dallas CASA member, advocating for children in the foster care system.
I am committed to meeting students where they are in their lives and helping make a meaningful, long-lasting difference. After earning my teaching certification, I began my career at Gulledge and have proudly been here ever since.
I started at Gulledge as a fourth-grade teacher for three years before transitioning into the ESL role on campus. I am currently in my fourth year serving our growing ESL population, and it has been a joy to build relationships with so many students and teachers year after year. I am excited to continue learning alongside our students and remain committed to showing up for them each day.
